President Biden Drives Forward with Electric Vehicle Revolution to Combat Climate Change

The largest industry in the US that contributes to climate pollution is still the transportation sector. President Biden is enforcing strict emissions regulations in the US to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, in line with the Paris Agreement’s commitment to reduce CO2 emissions.

According to reports, President Joe Biden is getting ready to impose stringent emissions regulations that would essentially force the sale of electric vehicles (EVs). This is another step ahead in his green program. Regulations that the Biden administration believes could push electric vehicles (EVs) to make up over two-thirds of new car and light truck sales by 2032 are expected to be implemented by the Environmental Protection Agency. This is a significant increase from less than 10 per cent of sales last year. These actions are in line with the United States’ commitment to the Paris Agreement, which calls for a major reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. They also aim to minimize pollution and CO2 emissions.

The largest industry in the US that contributes to climate pollution is still the transportation sector. According to Manish Bapna, head of the Natural Resources Defense Action Fund, “real, concrete progress” can only attained by a 20 per cent reduction in transportation’s carbon footprint.

The President will have to deal with opposition from Michigan voters and auto industry employees who are wary of a sudden switch to electric vehicles, though, as they implement new emission laws. American automakers stress that without better infrastructure for charging EVs, these targets are impossible to achieve. Economists in the auto industry point out that consumers find electric vehicles less appealing at certain price points due to the combination of growing labour costs and the requirement for costly EV infrastructure. The EPA may be under pressure to compromise and set more modest short-term carbon reduction targets while maintaining the same 2032 targets due to the hefty expenses.
