Debate in TV show Agenda on climate change
Sunday, 25 January 2009 21:49

Climate Change Denier - Elisabet HöglundHöglund and Pontus Schultz debated in the Swedish TV show "Agenda" today. It was unclear what the objective of today's show was, perhaps only to debate whether climate change is debated enough - that is whether it is happening or not and if human activities are part of the change.

Höglund is obviously correct in that statement that there is a heated debate going on in the blogosphere. Unfortunately, Höglund believes that the debate is more important than taking action against climate change. She says that it is important to constantly present a 50/50 amount of arguments from both views, as if the views of commentators are more important than the scientific findings.

It was quite amusing to hear that she denied that 97% of the scientific community agrees with the statement that humans play a role in the climate change, she did so by saying that she had heard from "hundreds of scientists" who do not agree. Talk about comapring apples to oranges.

I have heard about people who believe in superstition. So every time someone says that it is harmless to smash a mirror on TV we must immediately present someone else as well who believes in superstition and let them present their view? Are we not past such behaviour?

Pontus was calm, objective and neatly explained why there is less of a debate these days in media. Discussions were heated in TV until the Stern Review and the IPCC report were released. A major effort is required by companies and nations to avoid the - still very probable - scenarios become a reality.

I think it is time we stop listening to those who happen to yell the loudest, and instead listen to those that summarize research conducted on climate change. It is as Pontus said, very easy to rely on the sceptics who say that it will go well, we do not have to change anything. For me, that leaves our destiny in the hands of the dices. There is a risk, no one can say that there is no risk - not even the sceptics, but they bet their future on groundless faith, not on scientific research.

Guesses are often just what these sceptics rely on. Lars Bern, former CEO of Ångpanneföreningen who was interviewed a little too much in my view said in Agenda:
I don't think we need to worry about climate change.
Regarding my future, I choose not to trust those who guess, but those who as far as possible find out how things fit together. The answers are in the scientific community - not in the blogosphere.

Maggie Thauersköld was also interviewed, she is often seen in media as well, even though she has no training in the field of climate change. Stockholmsinitiativet says it will open to critical scrutiny to stop the damage our green shift means for the economy. They seem to completely ignore the risks that exist to continue business as usual.

People who are always complaining about having to pay taxes are a bunch of sniveling deadbeats. What would you do with the extra money anyway? Spend it on crap most likely. You are being forced to wholesale shoes do something good in your lives for a change.

Halfway through the year SPIN tipped their hand by offering the 20 Greatest Albums Of 2009 ... So Far. If you remember, the list wasn't in any specific order. Their 40 Best

cheap uggs Albums Of 2009 are, and it's interesting to see all the titles that popped up after the last one was published. As well as

the albums that missed the cut after basketball shoes
they were spun a bit more: Peter Bjorn And John, Blk Jks, Regina Spektor, Glasvegas, Mavado, and Sa-Ra Creative Partners are nowhere to be found. The list -- one of oh so many

lists -- is also refreshingly interesting in and of itself, a fine example of a publication stepping outside of the hive mentality and coming up with something that feels personal. Even if I

don't personally agree with a lot of it.

Who supports Proposition H? They include the Sierra Club, the San Francisco League of Conservation online ugg boots Voters, and the San Francisco Democrat Party. I hope they get used to working by candle light if the measure passes. For all those other things that require reliable electrical power, they should plan on finding some means to keep them going other than the electrical socket in the wall.
